Reiki for Grief & Emotional Release
Grief doesn’t only live in the mind, it settles in the body. In the chest, the throat, the stomach, the nervous system. After losing my dad, I could physically feel where my grief was sitting: a tightness in my heart space, a heaviness in my back, a pressure behind my eyes.
Reiki became one of the few places where I could truly let go.
During a Reiki session, emotional energy that has been held tightly, sometimes for weeks, months or years begins to soften. Clients often describe a sense of lightness, warmth or gentle release. Others feel waves of emotion rise, pause, and then move through them like a tide.
When I experienced Reiki while grieving, I wasn’t looking for the grief to disappear. I simply needed space to breathe again. Reiki gave me that space, a quiet, sacred moment where my body could process what my mind couldn’t yet put into words.
Reiki supports grief by:
soothing the nervous system
releasing emotional tension
clearing heaviness in the heart and solar plexus
grounding your energy when you feel overwhelmed
bringing clarity when everything feels foggy
offering a safe container to rest
I’ve seen clients walk in feeling numb or overstimulated, and leave with softer shoulders, clearer eyes, and a sense of being “back in their body.”
Reiki doesn’t bypass grief, it walks beside it.
It supports you as you feel, not instead of feeling.
For anyone navigating loss, Reiki can be a gentle companion. Not to fix, but to comfort. Not to erase, but to hold.
